About Tamara Bustos
After a rewarding career in human resources and business management, I was able to take some time off to enjoy being a stay at home mom with my two children. Being a parent myself has led me to understand the unique challenges that we face as we raise our children in today’s fast paced and media dominated environment. I decided to take what I have learned in business and in my life as a parent and put these resources behind me in my career as a counsellor.
I have completed my Masters of Counselling and have been working in the field of counselling for almost ten years. My background includes working with couples, individuals and families, with a special focus on adolescents. I have done extensive work with adolescent girls, including working as a Facilitator with Safeteen, an organization committed to assertiveness training and self-esteem building for teens and pre-teens. I have also worked as an advocate in schools and in the community for the prevention and treatment of children and teens who have been impacted by bullying. I have completed Mindfulness Trauma Training, Gottman Couples Training, Emotionally Focused Therapy Training for Couples, as well as training in CBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Adlerian parenting. I have received an additional Diploma of Professional Counselling from Vancouver College of Counsellor Training. I have volunteered for BC Children’s Hospital, supporting children with terminal illness and their families. I have delivered community education workshops to high school students on stress management and crisis coping skills. I completed my counselling internship with Family Services of the North Shore, where I continue to volunteer.
I live here on the North Shore and am married with two children.
I am a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association
